Burton Galaway was born on May 15, 1937. He earned his B.A. in sociology from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1959, his M.S. from the School of Social Work at Columbia University in 1961 and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1980. He joined the staff at the University of Minnesota in 1970 as an instructor.
